archive

This is the archive of old posts from two previous blogs. It does not include the archive of comments.

  1. The more recent of the two was hosted at LiveJournal and existed primarily as a vehicle to push articles onto PlanetKDE, a site which syndicates KDE developer blogs. This contains roughly 100 entries between 2007 and 2009.
  2. Previous to LJ, I wrote, hosted and administrated blogs for myself and several others from an old computer I had kicking around. It was never reliable and finally failed in 2007. However, between 2003 and 2007, I posted something like 513 entries.

Life as a Net-monkey

Jun

So today my life as the network admin-type at bytebenders was kind of interesting. First, there's an brute force attack in progress against one of our windows NT boxen that's coming from Georgetown University (some upper-class Catholic thumb-my-nose-at-you-less-fortunate-league University.) Called their sys-admin to try to figure out what's happening -- either their firewall is comprimised, or there is some ip spoofing happening, since they have no record of it.

Fiction

Jun

I post this here as a redundancy: There is nothing I hate more than the transitive nature of the internet sometimes. This is to preserve this work of roleplaying fiction such that I can read it again well into the future.

This garbage

Jun

This garbage does not make any sense,
but that's okay because today is passing quickly
and will soon be tomorrow.

And with tomorrow comes more blazing hot sun,
to fry humanity in its place,
incessantly broadcasting its packets of solar information
to the epidermis' of the masses.

Reprieve is offered by the towering inorganics that we propagate,
since they cannot yet propagate without influence
from those that created that which can destroy us,
it pertains to evolution.

We created our own future in the palms of the mirky

Baseball, &c.

Jun
13

(I just wanted to write &c.)

Anyway - league softball tourney starts tonight. This is for standing in the league, and as such we should be sober, by-and-large. Tonight we play at 7:20ish at Melrose High. I get to pitch. Not because I'm necessarily the best pitcher on the team, but because I'm the only pitcher that's there for the tourney all weekend long. So I pitch in 4 games minimum, 7 max - depending on how we do. The first three games count for league standing too, so like... no pressure or anything...

On Gay Marriage

Jun
11

First off, for those of your that don't already know: the Ontario Court of Appeals has ruled that preventing homosexuals from engaging in marriage is contrary to the Charter of Rights and Freedoms.

From cbc.ca:

According to the Divisional Court, the federal definition of

marriage as a lawful and voluntary union between "one man and

one woman" violated the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.

Ottawa appealed the ruling, arguing marriage is based on a universal

concept of a union between one man and one woman.

Random thoughts

Jun
10

This is probably going to a long rambling entry with no real point other than to put to text some random thoughts. That aside...

The Devils win the Cup. Hurrah! Giguere gets MVP - deserved it too. I go to thinking though -- in baseball there's a team called the Angels. What would happen if there was a hockey team called the Angels? Wouldn't that be fun -- Devils vs. Angels. Oh well indeed.

Also, Hamilton won the Caulder Cup (AHL) -- cool. At least the Canadians triumphed in one league.

I got my boss reading Cryptonomicon. So far he much likes it, which is good, since it's such an incredible book. Too bad Evan is so stubborn.

Tepid Thoughts

Jun
09

This weekend kind of sucked. I went to a slow-pitch tourney in Iles des Chenes (excuse the lack of proper accents) and we didn't win any games.

Most of the team was too drunk, stoned, tired, or all of the above to play, and they made me wonder why exactly they enjoyed it all.

The sex, booze and dope were everywhere that weekend, and I felt like a complete outsider. Not only did I decide to not camp there for the weekend, but I maybe drank two beers all weekend long. (Fort Garry Dark... good stuff.)
