Tepid Thoughts

This weekend kind of sucked. I went to a slow-pitch tourney in Iles des Chenes (excuse the lack of proper accents) and we didn't win any games.

Most of the team was too drunk, stoned, tired, or all of the above to play, and they made me wonder why exactly they enjoyed it all.

The sex, booze and dope were everywhere that weekend, and I felt like a complete outsider. Not only did I decide to not camp there for the weekend, but I maybe drank two beers all weekend long. (Fort Garry Dark... good stuff.)

Now, I wouldn't necessarily be the most conservative person I know, but in that setting, I appeared to be the most conservative of the team. I declined the dope and most of the beer (except for the aforementioned Fort Garry Dark.. mmm...) and shied away from the sleeziness that was everywhere.

The games were an awful farce. On Friday night, there were three sober people on the field, all in the outfield. We caught our share of balls, and turned them over to the drunk infield. The infield never caught any of our throws. Are opponents were scoring infield home-runs and triples, since they were just kicking the ball about, stumbling, falling, and couldn't throw or catch. And the pitching sucked.

We lost. Mercied in three innings.

Saturday: only one game, and that's at 4:30. Due to rain delays, we played at 5:30. The Pitcher, she was to stoned to throw strikes, maybe throwing two per inning. The infield was marginally better though. We still lost, but only by four runs. I left shortly afterwards and returned to my apartment. They partied all night.

Sunday morning: 11:30 game at Grand Point. Everyone is hung over - one girl was being a groupie for the band that played last night and didn't even show (one can assume the Freudian thoughts about that are true). Our pitching sucked to the point of not throwing more than 1 strike an inning (for the first 3 innings) and the coach is too doped and hung-over that he doesn't even make this realisation. I got him to change pitchers to someone more... sober. We held them scoreless after changing pitchers, but too little too late. We lost by 9 runs or so.

In the meantime, on Friday night, a bunch took some bats to a rental car. Intentionally. The guy who rented the car got extra insurance 'just so he could wreck it'. On Saturday night, worse. They turned the car over and burned it. Some were arrested, but I'm sure some got off with no more than a foggy memory of the events.

I'm not a conservative guy, but I'm a logical guy. None of this was logical. None of it was truly helpful or beneficial to society in any way, shape or form. Except, perhaps, that those that got arrested will no longer be able to rent cars.

Again evil thoughts come to mind, about the culture of North America (and related cultures) and overpopulation. This would be avoided if people had harder lives to live, with less time to waste boozing and fucking.

Anyway, little truly constructive critisicm or political commentary in this entry. Just some observations and reactions - I'll save the long commentaries for another post. Be safe.
