Life as a Net-monkey

So today my life as the network admin-type at bytebenders was kind of interesting. First, there's an brute force attack in progress against one of our windows NT boxen that's coming from Georgetown University (some upper-class Catholic thumb-my-nose-at-you-less-fortunate-league University.) Called their sys-admin to try to figure out what's happening -- either their firewall is comprimised, or there is some ip spoofing happening, since they have no record of it.

Secondly, I'm migrating to a new mail server tonight, which means I have to pull down one system, move the queue over while preserving everyone's mail in a safe fashion, then bring up the new server. Test it once or twice, then swap in the old ip so that people hit the new server instead. If it doesn't work, I gotta bring the old server back up fast!

So, it's apt that I'm wearing a t-shirt today that says "Life is Simple. Eat. Sleep. Surf the Net."

Be safe...
