archive

This is the archive of old posts from two previous blogs. It does not include the archive of comments.

  1. The more recent of the two was hosted at LiveJournal and existed primarily as a vehicle to push articles onto PlanetKDE, a site which syndicates KDE developer blogs. This contains roughly 100 entries between 2007 and 2009.
  2. Previous to LJ, I wrote, hosted and administrated blogs for myself and several others from an old computer I had kicking around. It was never reliable and finally failed in 2007. However, between 2003 and 2007, I posted something like 513 entries.

Blog-rolling; tech-support

Mar
13

Well, Evan's Blog just went live, and I think he will be immensely helpful as far as finding glitches and nitpicking bad design. He's a little fine-tuned that way. Anyway, Please go check it out and hopefully he will keep the content flowing.

Uncle Sam Wants You [Saddam]!

Mar
12

Well, looks like the US is a mere week or so away from going to war with Iraq and politics notwithstanding, I'm more interested in the technology that the US forces are demonstrating to the world. Good example would be The Mother of all Bombs, created with the single purpose of doing a little sabre-rattling.

New Project Idea; unpublished RFC

Mar
12

Persuant to my previous unstarted Project, Rex, I've been searching around for an OS that would be suitable to build it upon. What I've found instead is that all free OS's are too sloppy or they've been hacked to support everything or nothing.

Ricki came back; Conservative Friends

Mar
09

I've just spontaneously realised that all of my friends are conservative friends stuck in the cycle of wishing they were still in high-school. All we talk about are things from high school past, and about who's dating who - among our high school group. It really is quite boring. We talk the exact same conversations and do the exact same things. I think, without intending to sound anti-social, that it's time to move on to friends who are actually adults by nature, and not just adults by age and the ability to drive.

Well, the server is up!

Mar
06

Today at bytebenders I got the server up and running. Fully functional too, supports Perl, Python and Php4 on apache2. Also, ftp support for adding new (non-blog) users. Add a user to the system (via ssh or whatever) and their home dir is automatically populated with a public_html folder. They can then ftp into the box and put whatever they want in public_html and it can be accessed from /~username.

I like the server -- has a few issues with the firewall at the moment -- I forgot to make a rule to allow ftp and ssh through to that ip, but alas, 30 seconds of work tomorrow.

Abandonning KDE?; Syllable

Mar
06

I'm thinking about possibly abandonning kde development (would still use KDE while in linux/X) and starting to concentrate mostly on the development of Syllable instead. Syllable is ayoung project, and I think I'll be able to learn more (and contribute more) in this project than I'm able to in KDE. The entire codebase for the Syllable OS is less than that of KDE, which is just the GUI in linux.

Bytebenders and On-site

Mar
05

Well, bytebenders today had their interview with the only person contesting for the position of which I'm already filling. The person interviewed was a little green at the roots, and knew only microsoft, and only in a classroom sense. Thus, "I'm it." Tomorrow, I'll likely start to get paid to do what I'm already doing (and enjoying doing) which is nice. Now I just have to figure out how to get myself evicted from my apartment....

Of recent days; Life in the City of Troy's Brain

Mar
05

Well, my mom and her boyfriend were no longer getting along quite so much as they used to, so she decided that she was going to move out and into her own apartment. She hasn't lived alone in 20 years.

After a moving truck mixup, it turns out that there were five days at the beginning of the month in which she couldn't yet live in her flat, since her stuff wasn't there yet (was waiting on movers). Thus, she's staying at my messy bachelor apartment with her dog.

Of recent days; Blog version 0.2

Mar
05

In the last few days, I have spent little time working on this code -- have otherwise been occupied with work at bytebenders, and other non-related issues; I'll separate today's comments into two sections thus: one for blog software update, and the other for a personal update.

Here follows a blog update:
