Of recent days; Life in the City of Troy's Brain

Well, my mom and her boyfriend were no longer getting along quite so much as they used to, so she decided that she was going to move out and into her own apartment. She hasn't lived alone in 20 years.

After a moving truck mixup, it turns out that there were five days at the beginning of the month in which she couldn't yet live in her flat, since her stuff wasn't there yet (was waiting on movers). Thus, she's staying at my messy bachelor apartment with her dog.

Now her dog is actually very very small, and quiet. It's a Chihuahua, and for a dog, it's nearly a cat (and I like cats more than dogs -- this one is almost acceptable... still stinks like a dog though). Tomorrow morning she's leaving to permanently inhabit her own suite though and I can turn my silly music back up.

Lateral topic: I've also, due to this code, been trying to set up a server for it on a spare box I've got. P75, 16MB, 500MB, 10Mbit, etc. Should be good enough for low load operations serving text pages (like this one).

I had tried to get is running on the server at bytebenders with no luck... couldn't get python to run properly on it, and discovered some flaws on that machine - including completely hanging a few times by just running a compiler. Thus, I couldn't recomile python. We decided not to fix something that's working for it's intended purpose, so we're pulling some ram out of that machine, and building another box for an extensible apache server. Two options there: a production box (in which case we'll build a nice server) paired with my own P75 for personal hosting only; or a interim p166 box for serving with apache -- enough to provide customers demanding perl, php, etc. to do whatever they need to do.

Tomorrow morning, I'll go in and we'll make a final decision on that. I'll build and configure a box, and either way, I should have this site live by the end of the week.

Lateral topic: Had some car issues recently. Flat tire on saturday night -- tire fell off the rim. Got that fixed today for a mere $16 and tax (canadian funds). That's all good now. Need to get the windshield repaired or replaced. One chip and one crack about 30cm long. Also, need new corner blinkers for the front -- they are both missing. That and it needs a carwash *grins*

Anyway, most insteresting stuff to follow... sometime.

Be safe
