Ladies and gentlemen, let everyone exhale.

Presenting KDE 4.0.0, the KDE 4.0.x branch and trunk is apparently now open for KDE 4.1.x related work.

For those that are unfamiliar with how KDE goes from tagging to an official release, I present some information :)

Just a reminder folks! FREEZE for tagging is tonight at midnight, UTC! Any changes not in SVN at that point will not be part of the 4.0.0 release. The release team has requested no commits to those modules being part of KDE 4.0.0 until further notice starting at midnight, after which I'm sure they will make the appropriate announcements of how 4.0.1 will be opened. In addition, this freeze should apply to all extragear apps that are scheduled to be released alongside 4.0.0.

Over on the dot, the response to the re-naming of Ian's video player has elicited a very different response to that which occurred when he announced it on PlanetKDE.

Now, like most things where the decision is totally inconsequential, bikeshedding runs amok, but amongst all of the bikeshedding there was one unusual complaint, posted by "Gerd", entitled "Anglo-Imperialism". It reads: "Why do every programs get renamed with english names? English dominates the IT industry far too much. KDE had a time when it made a difference."

Since today is my only non-family-gathering day of the holidays, I figured today was my day to make something tasty for myself that I would normally not put that much effort into. It's not that I can't cook, it's usually that I'm too busy and/or lazy.

Edited: I would like to prefix this whole discussion that I am very happy with the effort that people are putting into things like the release team, without which we would never get anywhere in 4.0. They, like the oxygen artists, and many other elements of KDE get beat up on the dot, and elsewhere for perceived problems without remembering to recognize the very valuable work they are doing.

Okay Ruurd, I'm going to play your game, out in the open and in public, since the planets seem to be the place to play games these days (see planet.gnome.org for a good example of a similar game, complete with personal attacks and other niceties we usually try to avoid).

Guys, I'm starting to be really happy using KDE 4 for real work. Except for the fact that the system tray is now broken again (it was working a short while back), all the things I'm seeing are forward progress. So in the last few days I've been playing around looking for little bugs that can be fixed by applying just a bit of polish.

Hey folks, I have my tickets! whee! Oddly enough, my tickets are sponsored by the e.V. in a very round-about fashion. You see, the e.V. helped fund my trip to Glasgow last summer for Akademy, which was very nice of them. Unfortunately, I had a very interesting trip, including being trapped on the plane for seven hours due to terrorists, lost luggage, and a cancelled flight when I was trying to get home. Well, what happened is that Northwest/KLM gave me a travel voucher. This travel voucher more than covered the cost of my Mountain View trip, so in a round about way, the e.V.
