OF men

Men can be amazing creatures. They rise and fall like the tide with a regular routine about them that is very pridictable and traceable throughout the course of history. It is when the cycle becomes cloudy that the unusual develop.

Hitler was in prison when he wrote Mein Kampf (did I spell that right?). He gained such popularity that he was elevated from the lowest rank of society to a position that they had to create to make room for him. Hitler did not himself give power, rather he happened to be in the right place at the right time. The cycle of men with power in Germany back then was an oddity. Two regimes forming from a civilised root in a short span. It was not just a regular tide that washed in, rather more akin to a Tsunami. (And it didn't just affect Germany.)

We have had a long period of placid waters. History has noted the passing of many of these spikes of what we would today call tyranny. Napolean, and Hitler among the more recent. I am saying that there is a tide about to crest, inside the Oval Office. We will be at war in this decade, and not against a petty coutry that poses no serious threat to the world, but against the country that has freedom as a crumbling cornerstone.

Germany took over several countries in 'pre-emptive strikes' to 'protect the interests of the Germans' before the second world war was into full swing. They truthfully thought that they would take control of the world. The parallels are uncanny in our southern neighbour. The economy is faltering, and they are rattling their sabres. Already they have gone into two countries to 'liberate' them and to protect American interests. In Afganistan, the world accepted it, and the country is better for it thus far, but in the war machine there are only victims.

Iraq is now officially in control of a 'rebuilding team.' Except for some US reporting, the world is calling it an occupying force. 40% of the country is without power, and the US are more concerned about finding the fabled WMD. Let us hope they find them, for their own sake -- if they do not, then the warmongers will lose the cause that got them their power. They would invent a new one to take its place. Perhaps it would involve securing the Canadian coast to defend against incoming boats. Perhaps they lob a few nukes at North Korea to take out their army. Perhaps they declare themselves the 'homo superior' and decimate the Third world. Oh wait, they already control Canada's ports, with American Customs officers inspecting cargo that is entering Canada.

We can put up with it, or we can say, "No! We are a Sovereign Nation!" But, isn't that what Iraq said?

Thanks, Mr. Wolfowitz for you rise to power. Soon we shall be calling you Mr. President, right along side our southern neighbours. Canada would be the first victim if he were installed to succeed Mr. Bush. Let us hope that he is assassinated before the 2008 election.

Be safe. (I always cheered for the Empire, but only from the outside.)
